How to measure.
If you would rather we did it, a survey is free. If you want to measure yourself, this is the order to do it in.
Before you start
Use a steel tape, never fabric. Measure in centimetres to one decimal place. Measure every window individually even if they look identical — in most buildings they are not.
Width
Decide the track position first, because everything follows from it.
- Track length, not window width — extend 15–25 cm past the glass on each side so drawn curtains clear the opening
- Add the stack-back: roughly 20% of track length for a medium-weight fabric
- For a bay, measure each face separately and note the internal angles
Drop
Measure from the top of the track, not the top of the window.
- Sill length: finish 1 cm above the sill
- Below sill: 15 cm past it
- Floor length: finish 1 cm clear of the floor
- Pooling: add 3–5 cm beyond floor length for a soft break
Send it to us
Photograph each window straight on with the tape in shot, and send the numbers with the photographs. We will sanity-check everything before anything is cut — and if something looks wrong, we will say so.
Anything unclear here is our fault, not yours — ask and a person will answer.
